Global edits are used when an individual looks at the essay as a whole and acknowledges the structure. Local edits are used when an individual looks at the more specific parts of an essay, such as wording or grammatical mistakes. As I was peer reviewing my assigned essays, I found it hard to focus on the structure of the essay when I found little grammatical mistakes, or a spot where the wording could be switched around. I feel like it is easier to point out the local edits because they are found when an individual is just reading the essay. With global edits, I found that I could not make a well developed idea for a global edit until I read the entire essay because I wanted to make sure I understood the structure and the topic of the essay. Once I finished reading the essay, it was easier to go back and look at where each sentence should fit and where I could make suggestions to move a set of sentences so the essay flows better. I was able to find a few, but I found that global edits were definitely harder to find. Although, through this process, I learned global edits are the peer review comments that I am really seeking because I am trying to focus on how I structure my essay better, and then later I can adjust my essay to fix the local edits.
