My Recursive Writing Process

The English 110 course has helped me develop my writing skills through the recursive writing process. When we are first given an article or a piece of writing to read, I begin with active reading. Some of my favorite active reading strategies include annotating the text with a highlighter to highlight important lines that could be used as quotes. Also, I like to gloss the text, which is researching words I don’t know, and I like to make self to text connections. I also like to reread the text because I notice new aspects of the writing that I did not notice in my first read.

Once I have read the article and we are given the prompt, I begin to brainstorm. I like to make a list of different parts of the article that I might be able to use. When I am making this list, I just keep writing and let all of the ideas flow onto the paper, and then I can organize them later. Once I have written down everything I can think of, that is when I organize my thoughts into an outline.

Once my outline is complete, I write my free draft. My free draft is my favorite draft to write because I can just keep writing and let all of my ideas onto the paper. I know that it is okay if my paper does not make any sense, as I will go back and reorganize my thoughts

As I am writing many drafts of the essay and I finalize one draft, I begin the revision process. I tend to overwrite so as I revise, I like to combine to similar paragraphs into one paragraph and make it a barclay paragraph.

Once I finalize my draft, I like to reread my essay to look for grammatical errors and I like to make my friends read my essay.
